Meet the Artists

Akua Dixon and Her Swing Quartet
Cellist-composer-conductor Akua Dixon is renowned for her swinging string quartet, playing her originals and arrangements of jazz classics. This veteran jazz quartet performs Ellington, Monk, Mingus, spirituals, and work-songs. Akua’s Latin-jazz arrangements promise to have the audience dancing; this season’s performances include classics from the Great American Song Book by composers like Henry Mancini and Richard Rodgers. Akua will premiere a new work, “BEATZ,” at the Fourth Hip Hop Blues Project Concert, performed by some of the hardest-working string students from the tri-state area.
