CARNEGIE HALL PRESENTS PERU’S LEGENDARY VOCALIST EVA AYLLÓN IN
STERN AUDITORIUM/PERELMAN STAGE ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 8 AT 8:00 PM

Eva Ayllón, the great Afro-Peruvian vocalist, brings her blend of indigenous Peruvian, African, and Spanish “musica criolla” to Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage on Saturday, November 8 at 8:00 p.m. This concert is presented in partnership with World Music Institute.

For thirty years, singer Eva Ayllón has been selling out theaters not only in Peru but also throughout the world. With a voice that New York Magazine describes as “smoky, mature, and full of carnal energy,” Ayllón focuses on the elegant and lively genres of the coastal plains of Lima. Named the Queen of Landó, she is also known for singing the festejo and the vals; all mestizo blends of Peru’s indigenous, African, and Spanish musical heritage. Influenced at an early age by her grandmother, Ayllón joined different Afro-Peruvian children’s ensembles before embarking on a career that took off with the release of Esta Noche in 1978. In 1989, she co-formed the supergroup, Los Hijos del Sol, to promote Peruvian music throughout the world. Ayllón’s powerful voice can be heard on over 20 recordings, two of which received Grammy Award nominations, as well as in collaboration with artists such as El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico and Marc Anthony. Her latest release is Eva! Leyenda Peruana (Times Square Records), her first record to be produced in the United States.

World Music Institute is dedicated to the study and presentation of the finest traditional and contemporary music and dance from around the world. Growing out of a concert program developed at New York’s Alternative Museum begun in 1976, the World Music Institute has presented music from more than 100 countries and regions throughout the world.
