Broadens Reach of The Academy Beyond New York City
This fall, The Academy—an innovative two-year fellowship program providing extensive performance opportunities and intensive music education training for the finest post-graduate musicians—will enter its second phase (September 2007 to June 2008) and more than double in size to include 34 fellows. Established in January 2007, The Academy, a program of Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, and The Weill Music Institute, in partnership with the New York City Department of Education, reflects the shared belief among its founders that the artist of tomorrow will require both the highest performance standards and the capacity to give back to the community, inspiring new generations of musicians and music lovers.

This season, the fellows will continue to make a major contribution to New York City public schools’ music education programs, working alongside teachers in all five boroughs. The residencies will feature performances of programs also to be offered at Carnegie Hall and will include encore presentations of new works that Carnegie Hall commissioned for its 2006–2007 season.
