In partnership with The Bard College Conservatory of Music, this exciting two-part workshop commissions eight young composers to write new solo or duo vocal works for the 12 singers chosen to participate. Six of the singers will be chosen by competitive application and six will be students in their second year of the graduate program in vocal arts at The Bard College College Conservatory of Music.

Composer Osvaldo Golijov and soprano Dawn Upshaw will work with the participants during both of the workshop periods to prepare the commissions for their world premiere performances at Carnegie Hall in May. The workshop will also feature forums on composing and addressing the use of text in song. The October sessions will take place at The Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, and the May sessions will take place at The Bard College and Carnegie Hall. Participants must be available for both sets of workshop; sessions may also be scheduled in the evenings during those times.
