Robert Spano, “one of the most talented American conductors” (Boston Globe), performs Bernstein songs with vocalists Susan Graham and Rod Gilfry as well as pianist Jeremy Denk, while Jessye Norman joins composer Laura Karpman in a multimedia event based on a text by Langston Hughes. Also, Nickel Creek’s mandolinist Chris Thile, the BBC Folk Musician of 2007, performs with bassist Edgar Meyer.
